Why Zion?

Zion is a place of promise, described as a “holy mountain, beautiful in elevation, and the joy of all the earth” (Psalm 48:1).

Zion is a place of resurrection and new life where Jesus fulfilled his redemptive mission and proclaimed “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live” (John 11:25).

Zion is also the forever home for those who journey with Jesus; “You have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem” (Hebrews 12:22) and “1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” 5 And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new” (Revelation 21:1-5).

Zion Churches are a parish of two congregations, Mt Sion Lutheran of Kasson (Sion is an alternate spelling of Zion) and Zion Lutheran of rural Dexter. We seek to be people of the promise, valuing Jesus as our risen savior who provides new life as we trust in him, and daily on a journey that will find its fulfillment in the future in heaven.
